There are many benefits to children learning the English language. Most parents want their children to learn English so that they will have all of the opportunities available to them when they are adults. Learning English as a child is much easier than learning as an adult. Many parents do not know how to encourage their child to learn English. Fortunately, there are a number of things parents can do to initiate their child to learn the English language.

Parents learning English: In order to show their child that learning English is important, parents can actively and openly engage in their own English language learning process. This will make it more likely that the child will also want to learn the language.

Make Learning English Fun: Children are less likely to be motivated to learn English if it seems like it is work. Using games, activities, songs, and stories designed to help children learn English will make learning more fun. Children will look forward to learning and will learn faster. There are a number of fun tools parents can use such as CDs for learning songs, DVDs, board games, computer games, flashcard games on such topics as school, food, clothes, music, animals, time, and much more. Games create a positive and fun learning environment.

Speak English at Home: Parents can help their child learn English by speaking English at home. There are many online sites offering tips on how to speak English to children. When parents are able to speak English at home, children will have more exposure to the language and will want to keep learning. Parents and children practicing English skills together can be a great motivator for children to keep learning the language.

Internet Resources: The internet contains a host of resources to help children learn English. You will find games, fun exercises, stories, poems, and many sites that are focused on helping children learn English online. There are online resources to help children learn such things as pronunciation and vocabulary. There are also a host of tips and ideas on how to encourage your child to learn English.

Read English Books to Children: Children love it when their parents read aloud to them. Reading childrens English books to them will not only encourage them to learn the language, but help them acquire a love for reading. Online resources contain a variety of childrens books such as fairy tales, adventure books-etc.

Help Children Learn English Rhymes: Almost every child loves listening to and reciting rhymes. It is a great way to not only develop speech, but it is also a great way for children to learn how to speak English.

Encourage Participation: Through activities involving movement, music, and dance, children will be encouraged to sing in English and dance. It is a fun way to learn English. Participation is essential to learning another language.

Positive Reinforcement: Never force your child to learn or criticize him or her for making a mistake. Positive reinforcement is a key element to encouraging a child to stay with learning the English language. It builds trust, self-esteem, and self-confidence.

Implementing positive methods and supporting your child will encourage a willingness to learn and retain the English language.

In the last decade, home schooling has become extremely popular especially with middle and upper-middle class families. There have been lots of arguments before about home schooling. Experts say that there are pros and cons in home schooling but it seems that the former outweigh the latter and therefore, a lot of families are now choosing home schooling over the traditional schools.

Cultures vary enormously and relationships within the family are affected by culture too. In some cultures, family ties are quite strong, but there are also those who don’t have very good relationships with other family members at all. However, by home schooling, family bonds can be enhanced. Parents have to spend more time with their children because of the home schooling program and the children will have to listen to their parents too. Communication is much enhanced and both parties will learn about the importance of both speaking and listening.

Many families prefer home schooling because of its flexibility. However, since the cost of home education is a bit higher than traditional schools, the financial position of the family is quite important. However, even without considering the financial factor, many parents would still opt for home schooling, because it can guarantee their kids’ safety. Public schools often have dangerous situations that can influence kids enormously, however if they are in a home schooling program, they can stay away from these predicaments and their parents will be there to supervise them.

Instead of placing the kids at a public school, many parents would prefer home schooling because the learning environment in public schools is not that good. In public schools, very young pupils may experience problems that can affect them socially, mentally, and academically for a long time. Experts that have conducted surveys, claim that children learn better in a good environment surrounded by loved ones. Another advantage of home schooling is that children can learn according to their capacity. You can’t just give a new lesson, if the previous one hasn’t been learned yet. It may take longer, but the results are better.

As said previously, home schooling is a tad more expensive. However, if you think that you might be able to reduce your child’s educational expenses, you’re almost certainly wrong. Home schooling costs are almost the equal to those of traditional schools. However, if you participate in the forums of the parents of home-schoolers, you will find that there are ways to reduce costs. Naturally, you will have to spend on the resource materials, computer, and internet, but you can also use outside resources like cultural do’s, public libraries, etc..

You will be given even more cost-saving ideas, if you get in touch with other parents. The Internet offers endless possibilities and with a bit of homework, you can surely discover ways to ease the costs. If you don’t want to hire tutors, then you will have to learn the lessons too. You have already studied the various subjects in your kids’ educational program, so you only need to review them. You can get further learning material online or the bookshop and later on, teach your kids.

So, it is obvious, that home schooling is far and away the best option, especially if your child is still rather young. So, it all depends on you and your kid, whether they continue this kind of education until they graduate for college.
