They love to play and dress them and take them places, as if they really were their mommies.

I have a daughter that first began her love affair, with a certain doll, when she was only 18 months old. The relationship was a bit rocky at first as my little mommy pulled her baby’s hair and competed with the doll for bottle and binky use. Yet as the weeks passed the love my baby had for her baby grew to complete devotion.

She fondly named the baby doll Bah-Bah-Toe (don’t ask, I don’t know) and they have been inseparable now for several years. The cementing moments of the relationship occurred when Bah-Bah-Toe was given her own dollhouse. At first this was a humble dwelling that consisted of nothing more than a few cardboard boxes stacked and taped together.

At Christmas time that year, when my daughter was 2, the idea of getting her a brand new doll was down right blasphemous. Bah-Bah-Toe reigns supreme. One evening as my husband and I observed our little mommy lovingly reciting a story to her precious baby and tenderly tucking her into one of those cardboard rooms it struck us: Bah-Bah-Toe needs a real house.

Finding the perfect dollhouse for our daughter and her baby was not too difficult but was a decision that required some care. There are so many options out there. The first thing to consider is size. In our case the house needed to be able to inhabit the doll we already had. For those who may still need to populate the new residence the size concern is moot. Yet size is still an issue. Tall dollhouses pose a tipping threat and a climbing temptation for little ones. The last thing you want is the dollhouse to become memorable because of your child’s King Kong impression and the ensuing trip to the ER.

Dollhouses that are overly intricate, ornate or small similarly don’t work for toddlers. Those gorgeous Victorian ones are great, but a toddler will destroy it before the sun sets on Christmas day. Those with fine detail and small furnishings also pose a choking hazard. What a toddler needs is a dollhouse that isn’t too big, and isn’t too small. There are several varieties on the market that your daughter will be thrilled to call her own.

Many dollhouses come with just that: the house. Other brands come with a load of extras including play figures, furniture and clothing for the dolls. Price and your existing collection of accessories is a great way to decide what you need for your daughter’s Christmas wishes to come true. If you have many dolls already, then a house by itself is probably the way to go. For those just beginning their doll collections, a house that comes with extras will have a higher price tag up front, but when you factor in the cost of buying extra pieces separately, it might be the better deal.

Our little mommy has grown so much we hardly recognize the 2 year old who squealed with delight as she tucked a baby named Bah-Bah-Toe into her new house for the first time. Yet she still loves that doll, and her dollhouse where her doll baby lives.

What joy she has gotten from those toys and what a great investment they have been in the growing of her imagination.

Surviving beautifully, however, entails the presence of family and friends, sufficient physical activity and laughter. It has been said that the additional three things are what a child needs most during the first six formative years of life to ensure positive development.

We do not need to have an intricate knowledge on psychology, specifically child’s psychology, in order to see the logic that backs up such claim. Those may not be the best three things that should be considered on top of our ‘essentials’ list in baby care yet they definitely provide positive input to the overall well-being of a child. On that note, it is easy to see the important and beneficial role that play has on the development of children.

The activity of play has been linked with the positive total development of the child. It is said to enhance a child’s learning, as well as verbal and personality development. As the activity of ‘play’ provides an environment where a child could discover tings in a fun and entertaining way, the activity is said to be an important part of the growing process. It is also important to keep a safe play environment for the child.

Where and how the safety gates will be installed are two necessary considerations when choosing which safety gates to buy. Safety gates come in different sizes, types and style that suit specific circumstances as to installation. Keeping such aforementioned considerations in mind makes the guidance for buying just the perfect safety gates.

If the fireplace or an outdoor grill will be the target location, there is safety gates designed to provide protection from any heat-emitting construct. There are also the retractable-type which can be used for limited spaces as this type utilizes the space in the possible maximum way. If you intend to bring the gates on travel, there are the ones that can be easily assembled and disassembled as they provide ease and convenience of being carried around. There is also safety gates designed to provide protection from windows.

Safety gates may provide protection or the child yet it is still necessary that the child be supervised even during playtime. Aside from omitting potential hazards, supervision also provides the guidance necessary for the child’s proper learning while at play.

Why not? Call them and they’ll show up at your child’s next birthday party. You can use them when some villain tries to break up the celebration. Check out all these cool G-Force birthday supplies and find out how you can be protected.

Get the action going by sending out some G-Force Invitations. Your operation may begin top secret, but you don’t want it to stay that way. Mail these and everyone will know that a huge party is about to start. Like any protective agency, it’s important to be prepared.

You’ll be prepared if you order a G-Force Deluxe Party Pack. It’s a complete package of plates, cups, activity placemats, and more so you can serve refreshments and know your tasty offerings are safe. Then, inflate the balloons (with a Helium Tank accessory) and unroll the crepe paper rolls. Spread the tablecover. Get set for a meeting like no other when the agents arrive!

To keep all your partygoers peaceful while you set up, be sure to stock up on G-Force Tattoos. The agents kids will be too busy putting on these designs to start trouble. The tattoos are also no trouble to wash off, so you can move on to your next item on the checklist.

Oh, by the way, don’t forget those G-Force Cone Hats, either. What’s a party without hats? The package includes 8 cardboard hats with elastic chin straps and feature the characters from the terrific new film. Naturally, that character is decked out with all the high tech gear needed to communicate with his pals.

Now also might be a good time to let the whole crew explore their G-Force Party Favor Kits. Each green-and-white striped box contains a mystery pad and decoder, a sticker sheet, a Snap-n-Glow pop, a telescope, and some black slime. If that doesn’t keep them occupied, nothing will!

Those sticker sheets (like the tattoos) also are available separately, along with Green Telescopes. The 7″ long plastic looking glass is perfect for scouting out the enemy. Kids can use the tattoos to identify who is on the good guys team and who is with the bad guys.

Hand out G-Force Mystery Water Paint Boards to keep all the secret agents sharp about how to solve a puzzle. This set of 4 paint boards make it easy to exercise those mental muscles. Just wet a finger and rub to reveal a secret message. Then everyone can huddle and decide how best to invade the bad guys headquarters.

Your birthday planning mission is now nearing a successful conclusion. You’ve told everyone where to meet and stocked up on G Force birthday supplies to keep them covered at the meeting. Now, prepare to save the world!

To some women, it feels like small bubbles rising to the surface. Others report that it feels similar to the pop of popcorn. Still others compare it to the fluttering of butterflies. Known as “quickening,” these first sensations usually signal the beginning of a string of motions that grow in regularity until childbirth. In this article, we’ll describe what to expect when your baby makes his first moves. Whether a light tap, a swift kick, or a little twist, it’s one of the exciting delights of being pregnant.

When Does It Start?

In most cases, quickening happens during the fourth or fifth month. Even though your baby starts moving toward the end of the second month, there won’t be enough strength behind his motions for you to feel them. He’s small and buried in your womb. Also, it’s worth noting that first-time mothers are less likely to be able to discern a kick from gas. Mothers who have already given birth tend to notice movements before new moms-to-be.

There are circumstances in which some pregnant women don’t feel their babies moving until well into their second trimester. There are a number of reasons why this might happen. Body weight is a factor as is the position of the fetus. The placenta can also cushion the kicks which may prevent you from feeling them.

No Need For Concern

Mothers-to-be are often concerned when they don’t feel their baby kicking and moving as they enter the second trimester. They might also be alarmed when movements subside or cease after starting. As noted, late quickening might be due to body weight, fetal positioning, or the location of the placenta. Even if you’re unable to feel your baby’s moves, you’ll probably be able to see them on ultrasound.

While it’s true that babies tend to pick up the pace of their squirming, kicking, and hitting once they begin, it’s common for them to take a break every now and then. Feeling a few kicks on Monday may be followed by a motionless Tuesday. There is usually nothing to worry about. Having said that, if you notice a long period of silence, let your obstetrician know. A quick test should confirm that all is well.

Tracking The Movements

A lot of doctors will strongly suggest that you begin tracking your little one’s karate chops once you have reached the third trimester. By that time, you won’t have trouble identifying your baby’s kicks and squirms. He’ll have grown big enough to let you know he’s there. The best way to track his movements is to pick a time each day and make a note regarding how long it takes you to feel 10 moves. If a few hours pass before you notice them, call your obstetrician.

Your baby’s first motions inside your stomach will be one of the greatest joys of your pregnancy. They’ll serve as constant proof that a beautiful life is growing within you.

Purchasing baby garments is always fun, as the garments are so tiny and lovable. However, it’s important to notice that there are a few places especially that are superb to go to when you’re wanting to buy baby garments, particularly if you need to get the best worth for your cash.

It seems as though there are a million different baby clothes stores and retailers around the world, but nevertheless there are a few in particular that really stand out. One is The Kids Window, which is a company that is recognized as being the leading online department store for both baby and childrens goods.

They’ve been in business since the year two thousand, and over the years they have spent in the business they have sourced some fantastic products at competitive costs. They can now boast of having over thousands of different items to offer, including baby garments and accessories.

They also ship to addresses all over the world, and because they are a web company, they offer that added convenience as you are able to shop right from the comfort of your house, on your own time.

Babies R Us is another fantastic option for baby clothes, and although they are a bit more pricey than some competitors, the quality and variety that you are offered is truly incredible. They are without a doubt one of the leading retailers of toys and baby products in the world, with more than 1,500 freestanding toy and baby specialty stores worldwide.

Without reference to which particular store you are inquisitive about purchasing your baby garments from, there a couple of things that you are going to need to consider first. For one, you’re going to need to think about comfort and functionality, both for you and the baby. Though some garments can be wonderful, if they have too many snaps or buttons then you’re going to have a troublesome time getting them on and off all of the time.

You truly have to recollect just how frequently you’re going to be changing baby through the day, particularly during the initial few months, and so you’re going to need to get baby garments that are going to be straightforward to control during many nappy changes.

You also need to take the climate under consideration ; if it is warm out you are patently going to need to get cooler styles and fabrics for the baby. However, if it is fall or winter you’ll need to get warmer garments so you can layer efficiently.

Add a bit of light and a few sound effects and watch the fun grow. Your baby can roll, sit and even step a bit when holding your fingers or clinging to the couch. It might be time this year to get a Christmas gift that will really get the party started. Babies love lights. Toys that blink or flash stimulate brain function and really hold your little one’s attention. You probably already have a variety of toys that come equipped with a light show. The addition of a few sounds and strains of music take the fun to another level.

Yet all the lights and sounds in the world are often no match for the simple pleasure of standing and moving. Babies who have reached the cruising stage are not content to sit in one place and rattle the same toy no matter how many lights it has or different sounds it makes. A cruising baby wants action!

This is where toys that come in the form of a table come in. There is a type of musical lights and sound table to suit any parent or baby’s wildest Christmas dreams. A few of the more common varieties are simply activity tables that stand about a foot or so off of the floor. These elevated toys have knobs and buttons for your child to press, open, roll or slide. In addition to the gadgets for baby’s play your child can now stand and shimmy all the way around their little table. Babies love to press the buttons that play music then perform their own dance routines while using the table to steady themselves.

Has your baby already shown an interest in a certain cartoon character or song? There are tables that incorporate most of the major baby friendly cartoon shows and songs. The familiar colors and sounds enhance baby’s interest and play.

One of the perennial favorite light, sound or musical play tables for little ones are tables that include a miniature key board. It is never too soon to create a love of music in your child. Who knows where this early piano tinkering will take your child?

Parents often think about fun and learning. Babies just want to have a bit of fun. There is a table for that! In fact there are many, many tables that not only stimulate play, but also help your child learn a variety of basic facts. Some tables come with buttons shaped like each letter of the alphabet, as your baby presses these buttons the letter’s name is said. The same holds true of shapes, numbers or animal sounds.

To get the most for your money look for tables that grow with your child both in terms of height and interest. Some tables have different program settings that will change the function of buttons and sound effects. This means your baby will move through the cruiser and toddler stages and not become bored because even for youngsters variety is the spice of life.

For mommy and daddy’s sanity, look for tables that are equipped with volume controls as well as an off button. If your child loves this toy as much as most babies do you may soon wish it wasn’t quite so loud. You will also want to consider how the table is powered. How long do the batteries last? How many, what type and what is the cost of the batteries it uses? Many toys requiring batteries are left lifeless and useless once the batteries wear out if the cost and ease of replacement is too high.

Baby Monitors are used by millions of families every year to help watch over their newborns and older babies. Baby Monitors are an extra pair of ears or eyes when it comes to looking out for baby. Baby monitors are an ideal way to check on your baby when you are mobile, allowing you to move around the house or garden, with the ability to listen to your baby, or view your baby on a video monitor. Baby monitors are one of those must-have items for any conscientious parent.

Monitor

Monitoring your baby in this way has many advantages not least being able to record your baby or see larger pictures. One of the primary uses of baby monitors allows attendants to hear when an infant wakes, while out of immediate hearing distance of the infant. Monitors come in a widevariety of styles, and you can get a basic monitor for as little as $30 or you can pay as much as $200 for one of the more advanced models. Baby Monitors allow parents and caregivers to keep tabs on a sleeping baby while working around the house or even outdoors. A quality baby monitor with a good rating is what is most important.

Video

Video monitors allow you to in fact see and hear your child on a TV screen. Video baby monitors that have night vision mode will switch to this mode involuntarily in the dark. Video Baby Monitors are the complete solution for keeping a watchful eye and trained ear on your infant from another part of your home, so you know your baby is contented and safe. Video images of your baby are streamed at 25-30 Frames per second making it appropriate for connection to your TV Advanced features and 600 Metre range. Video monitors allow you to see and hear (during sleep or playtime) if your child is crying and why.

Conclusion

Video Baby Monitors are the perfect solution for keeping a watchful eye and trained ear on your infant from another part of your home, so you know your baby is happy and safe. These long range baby monitors are great if you have a larger home. Baby Monitors are a must when your baby is asleep in a different room for both safety and peace of mind. Because baby monitors are so affordable today, every parent should have one.

These days, more and more people are getting baby sitting services. Much of its popularity can also be attributed to the internet. They aren’t exactly like traditional agencies. They also aren’t mere listing sites. Online sitter services are actually the best of both worlds. With a good sitter service, you get an ideal baby sitter at an affordable cost. There are a lot of online sites to choose from though. If you want to find the best, here are some considerations to take note of.

Reputation and Length of Operation

Specialize in Babies – A sitter service should specialize in the field of baby sitting. Most online services however, would naturally claim to be real experts. The best way therefore to find the really good ones would be to take a look at their track record. How long has the sitter service been in business? Although new businesses may be just as good as old ones, it would be a good idea to stick with a company that has had a lot of experience. It shouldn’t just be any kind of experience though. A sitter service should have a long, extensive and expert experience in the field of baby sitting.

Get clients’ feedback. You might get a clue about company experience by reading what clients think. You can get a load of these by visiting independent parenting and sitting forums. Parents who are happy with a particular baby sitting company would be willing to say so online. The same can be said for parents who aren’t happy about a particular service. You would at least know which sitting service has the best reputation.

Services Offered

Your baby sitting services agency should have a variety of services. This is because not every parent would have the same needs. In your case, you may also have varying needs at any given point in your family life. There may be times when you would need stay in sitters. At other times you may just prefer temporary sitter assistance. A good online service should be able to anticipate every client’s needs. There should be a variety of sitters who can stay in, stay out or provide short term service.

Added Services – Aside from the kind of sitters offered, you should also look for other services. The most important of these is the character investigation. Online sitting services should be able to provide you with baby sitter character files with complete clearances. You probably do not want to end up with a sitter who has a criminal history or a drunk driving case.

Screening Procedure

A site’s screening procedure is also important. Will a site perform screening for you or will you be allowed to be the one to screen? If you are an involved parent, you are likely still interested in having a hand at the screening process. Find out how a site will help you do that. How can you schedule interviews with sitters? What kinds of questions can you ask them?

Guarantees

A good online service should have some form of guarantee. Find out what a sitter site will be willing to do for you if you end up not liking your sitter. You may also need to replace a sitter if she has to go for personal reasons. Will a site replace a sitter without extra charge?

Availing of baby sitting services can truly be a great idea. It is crucial though that you pick the right service if you want a good experience with your sitter.

As children grow during their first few years, may of them will start sucking their thumbs or fingers. There are a number of reasons why babies and toddlers do this. First, infants enjoy putting nearly everything in the mouths, so this is a natural extension of that habit. Second, it’s worth remembering that babies find it calming. Sometimes, it’s their way of gaining a level of comfort in unfamiliar environments. Other times, it has a relaxing sensation; it reminds them of being within the womb and often helps them go to sleep more easily.

Whatever the reason that triggers the habit, parents may eventually need to take steps to prevent it. If a toddler continues to suck his thumb, it can affect the development of his mouth and jaw as well as the manner in which his teeth align. And the more intense the sucking, the greater likelihood of potential dental issues. Today’s article will provide a few quick tips for helping your little one kick the habit.

Encourage Rather Than Scold

Most young children develop a sense of independence. By the time they’re four or five, that independence often manifests as a desire to appear mature. This is an opportunity to let your child know how proud he makes you feel. Focus on the items that he no longer needs or uses, such as a comfort blanket, diapers, or even a pacifier. Then, suggest that he considers giving up his thumb on his road to maturity. This method is usually far more effective than scolding.

Ask Your Pediatrician To Intervene

When you visit your doctor, it’s natural to believe she knows what she’s talking about. You trust her advice. For example, if she suggests that you make a certain lifestyle change, you’ll listen because your doctor is an authoritative figure. Your toddler learns to respect authority in the same way. If he hears from the pediatrician that he should give up thumb sucking, he may be more inclined to follow the advice.

Point It Out

The habit can be so strongly ingrained in a toddler’s mind that he may not even realize he’s doing it. He may need you to point it out for him. Come up with a simple, yet fun way that you can let him know he’s doing it without saying anything to him. For example, tell him that whenever he sees you touching the tip of your nose, it means he has started to suck again. Not only does this remove his expectation of being scolded, but it also eliminates any shame he may feel if caught.

A majority of toddlers lose interest in sucking their thumbs long before their parents need to intervene. That said, if the habit sticks, use the tips above to help your little one break it.

When you first bring home your baby, items like comforters, quilts and pillows aren’t necessary.

You will also have to make a choice of whether to use a bumper in your baby’s crib. There’s mixed information available. Educate yourself and make a choice.

If you do decide that a bumper will protect your child, go with a thinner design. Thick, fluffy bumpers are much more of a suffocation hazard than these thinner ones.

The essential items for the first year of your baby’s life are sheets, a mattress, and maybe a crib skirt for a better look. You want to avoid fluffy or heavy items in the crib that could suffocate your baby.

However, you might be concerned about your baby staying warm at night. For that purpose consider using an organic blanket or sleep sac to swaddle your baby in. If you wrap your baby snugly you will avoid the risk of suffocation.

So, what do you do with the comforter or quilt that came in the baby bedding set? They make great accessories for your baby’s nursery.

You can hang the quilt over a rack designed for it, or simply mount it on the wall.

Purchasing a complete baby bedding set in the beginning may also save you money in the long run, as the set can be used for your child throughout the toddler years as well.

If you’d rather keep it simple in the beginning with just the sheets and such, purchasing a bedding set later will allow you to give the nursery a fresh new look.
